Get Ready To Go & Don't Forget!

If you have animals that are shy and slow to warm up, start introducing them as much as possible to their new routine and sitter. When you leave town it can be stressful on your pets. If at all possible, try to introduce your pets to their sitters and new routines a few weeks before you go and get them acclimated to reduce stress in your absence.

Make sure dog tags and microchips are up to date! Pets should always have a collar and tags when you are out of town even if they do not normally have one. Some animals find your absence stressful and it can trigger behavior patterns not consistent with when you are home. Always have identifications tags and photos ready especially if you are not going to be there!

Make sure you have pet prescriptions filled and if possible it is helpful to leave a card on file with your vet and a letter of permission for a specific caregiver to bring your pet into the vet in case of emergency. You can give instructions to your vet the level of care you are willing to authorize in the event you can't be reached.
